Genetic Testing/Counseling
|
Genetic Information and Patient Services, Inc. The following web site offers a look at genetic testing. This is a long, detailed article from Genetic Information and Patient Services, Inc. (GAPS). It does a nice job of explaining the genetics of testing DNA for many diseases that are inherited, not just Alpha 1. http://www.icomm.ca/geneinfo/genetests.htm University of Kansas The University of Kansas web site listed below lists a number of professional genetic counseling centers across the United States. In addition they offer access to Genetic Societies and a search engine to find a genetic counselor close to you. http://www.kumc.edu/gec/prof/genecntr.html University of Utah The University of Utah offers a web site that discusses genetic testing of newborns for Alpha-1. This article is a bit outdated with information regarding augmentation therapies available, but provides discussion about the various alleles, genetic counseling and life modifications in simple terms.
